These prints are made by placing plant based materials on top of light sensitive black & white darkroom papers and exposing in sunlight for anything from a couple of hours to a full day. It is a wonderfully unpredictable process with results varying greatly depending on a number of factors including the type of photo paper used, subject matter and moisture content, strength of the sun, humidity and length of exposure. The prints are then fixed in a chemical solution to make them permanent though unfortunately this has the disappointing effect of drastically fading the colours (gold or selenium toning the print before fixing can help to retain or otherwise affect the tones). The prints are scanned before the fixing stage and reprinted on Hahnemuehle fine art papers.
